The Pulsar re-introduces the concept of a more traditional Nissan family hatchback. With value very much to the fore, there are four trim levels, lots of standard equipment, and an array of safety features.
The family resemblance is unmistakable. Sharp creases break up the body sides, while sideways-inverted arrowhead-shaped taillights add a distinctive touch. Somewhat at odds with its conservative character, a honeycomb front grille, rear spoiler and carbon-effect diffuser add sporty flourishes.

Although Pulsar models were front-wheel drive from introduction, Nissan did offer four-wheel drive as an option on select models internationally. The Pulsar sold in Japan originally served as the intermediate model offered at Nissan dealerships Nissan Cherry Store between the Nissan Violet and the Cherry, while different versions of the Pulsar sold at other Japanese networks served as the base model, with other larger Nissan products.
Various Pulsar-based models were exported as international market conditions dictated, sometimes labeled as "Sunny", "Cherry" or "Sentra", while the internationally labeled product was actually a Pulsar and not a Japanese market Sunny or Cherry. A pulsar portmanteau of pulsating star is a highly magnetized, rotating neutron star. The N10 model Pulsar, introduced in Mayreplaced the earlier Cherry F-II internationally, and benefited from the engineering efforts of the Prince Motor Company which developed the Nissan Cherry before the company merged with Nissan in It retained the rack-and-pinion steering of the Cherry, as well as the independent suspension with coilover struts in front and coil sprung trailing arms at the rear.
It retained the Cherry name in Europe and many other export markets, even being sold as the "Cherry Europe" in some markets such as Belgium to separate it from the Cherry F-II which remained on sale for a while. At the time of introduction, the Pulsar only had a four-door fastback -styled sedan bodywork, and either a 1. Many export markets also offered a 1. It entered the Australian market in Octoberwith the facelift arriving in October Another Pulsar derivative was introduced to Japan, called the Nissan Langleyfromand was introduced as a "mini Skyline ", and exclusive to Nissan Prince Shop.
The Japanese-market Langley assumed duties of the first generation, Sunny-based coupe called the Nissan Silvia when the second generation Silvia was upgraded to the larger Nissan Violet platform; both the Silvia and the Langley remained exclusive to Nissan Prince Store locations.
The Langley was given its name from Samuel Pierpont Langley the inventor of the bolometera device used to measure electromagnetic radiation from the Sun, and was well regarded for his work in solar physics.
Because of its sporting intensions, the Langley was equipped with an independent suspension at all four wheels, using MacPherson struts in the front, and a trailing arm coil suspension for the rear. The engine choices consisted of the A14 and E15 series engines with multi-point fuel injection on top level trim packages, but only in a three-door hatchback.
The van was first released in Novemberwhile the export-only wagon models first appeared in early Most markets never got any fuel injected versions. The 1. Called the Datsunin Canada it was also available with Pulsar striping on the rear quarters.Its strong points include the spacious interior, which can shames larger cars from the class above, decent standard equipment levels, and a full-house of safety kit that delivers an impressive five-star safety rating.
The downsized engines only offer adequate performance, but they are economical. The Nissan Pulsar is a mid-size family hatchback that's based on the same platform as the Nissan Qashqai crossover. That model replaced the dull Almera inand proved to be an instant hit for Nissan. When the Qashqai launched, Nissan said it marked the end of hatchback production from the firm.
However, while the Qashqai was a hit, Nissan decided in to reintroduce a hatchback using the same platform, engines and technology as the Qasqhai. However the Pulsar was never a strong seller in the UK, and the hatchback was withdrawn from sale again in Part of the reason for the Pulsar's failure was the sheer breadth of talent in the hatchback class made it an also-ran from the start.

The Pulsar DIG-T is recognisable by minor styling upgrades inside and out, including unique inch alloys. This is the performance flagship of the range, and remaind as such, because while a Pulsar Nismo hot hatchback was mooted, it never came to fruition.
The trim range for the Pulsar is the same as it is for the Qashqai. That means there's Visia, Acenta, n-tec and Tekna models. From Visia upwards, all models have a healthy standard spec, including a five-inch colour TFT display in front of the driver, six airbags, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, cruise control, air conditioning, tyre pressure monitoring and a CD player. Acenta trim adds a six-speaker stereo, automatic lights and wipers, dual zone AC, fog lights, heated mirrors and a leather steering wheel to the kit list.
N-tec trim highlights include privacy glass, LED headlamps, NissanConnect infotainment and a reversing camera, while Tekna trim is well equipped, with heated leather seats, plus the full Safety Shield package with Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and a surround camera system. Not only is its platform shared with the Qashqai, it also underpins the latest Renault MeganeKadjar and Scenic models. While the Pulsar was never a sales success for Nissan, it's now quite a promising used purchase.
Depreciation has seen prices fall faster than they have for the Qashqai, and if you don't want the high riding SUV looks of that car, the Pulsar offers all the same kit and nearly as much space as its crossover cousin.

In July a two-door version was introduced, meaning that the earlier B Sunny Van could finally be retired. The AD range was based on the B11 series Nissan Sunny wagon but has a more square-rigged and utilitarian appearance.
It came with three engines; the 1. The transmissions were either a four- or five-speed manual transmission, with the availability of a three-speed automatic for the bigger of the gasoline options.
The rear suspension was designed for commercial usage, so it used a simple leaf spring setup and wasn't intended for ride quality. Low cost, light weight, and a flat, low loading floor were the main consideration.

Mid-level Acenta trim is also a good choice; it adds dual-zone climate control, heated door mirrors, automatic lights and wipers, and keyless entry, as well as some cosmetic upgrades including larger alloys. All versions come with six airbags, stability control and a tyre pressure-monitoring system, while Acenta models upwards also get Forwards Emergency Braking — a system that can automatically apply the brakes to stop you running into the vehicle in front.
